This land is known for its many natural beauties (the sea, the beaches etc.) and cultural (the baroque, the pizzica, the festivals etc.).<br \/>Light undoubtedly represents a synthesis between these two aspects. The light of the sun, which illuminates the beaches during the day and shines on the sea and the light of the lights which, at night, colors and surprises the Salento summer evenings. In fact, the luminarie cannot be missed during the many festivals and patronal celebrations held in all the Salento towns. The luminarie are gigantic structures of colored lights, positioned to decorate entire buildings, churches, streets and squares. So as to form unique light scenes, capable of arousing the admiration of all those who pass through these places.<br \/>The lights, also called <strong>parature<\/strong>, are mainly made of fir wood and built in such a way as to resist bad weather. Although they have an ancient tradition (the first luminarie are described as far back as the 16th century), they received their greatest impetus only in the first decades of the 20th century, i.e. when electric light bulbs became widespread. Since then there has been a recovery of the ancient popular tradition of illuminations which has ended up making them an integral part if not even identifying the Salento culture itself. The greatest representation of this Salento tradition is undoubtedly the celebration of Santa Domenica in Scorrano. This festival is celebrated on July 5th, and the greatest &#8220;paratori&#8221; masters set up light scenes so wonderful that they arouse the interest of tourists from all over the world. The birth of the tradition of illuminations in Scorrano dates back to 1600, when Santa Domenica appeared one day to an elderly lady of the town. The saint promised the salvation of the entire citizenry from the plague, if in exchange every citizen would light a light in the window as a sign of gratitude for the grace received. Since then, the streets illuminated by hundreds of colored light bulbs have been a must for this festival and for every festival in Salento. And the master paramakers are craftsmen now recognized as true artists, sought after for light installations all over the world. Japan and the United States of America above all. More recently, important fashion brands (Dior) have also organized magnificent events under the backdrop of wonderful luminarie.<br \/>With the flourishing of this tradition, there are quite a few private homes or accommodation facilities that have decorated their environments, external or internal, with modern lights.<\/p><p>At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cortemanfredi.it\/en\/corte-manfredi-to-discover-salento\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Corte Manfredi<\/strong><\/a>, however, we have recovered an ancient luminary from the first half of the 20th century, which today illuminates room 7A of the suite with a new ancient light. The ancient luminaria was restored by the expert hands of a well-known paraphernalia artist but with the instruction not to hide the signs of aging.
