For washing and treating the clothes in the pile, the stricaturu was used: a wooden board with horizontal grooves. The stricaturu was half immersed in the pile and the clothes were rubbed from bottom to top on the board. In this way, contact with the grooves favored the softening and expulsion of dirt from the fibres. This was the ancient method for removing dirty stains from clothes.<br \/>The stricaturu, for centuries, was therefore a simple washing board. Today, however, it has become part of the furnishing accessories of many homes in Salento.
