As already mentioned, initially the most widespread types of ceramics in Puglia were large containers for pouring and drinking wine. Only later did the production of ceramics diversify into smaller-sized products. For example, the capasoni, used daily in the home, were also used to contain substances other than wine (for example oil, foods). Other objects, however, had a completely different use (pitals, vases, lamps, candle holders, etc.). Among these, oil lamps represented very important artifacts as electric light did not exist at the time. Minimal lighting was only possible thanks to these oil lamps or candles. For this reason, the artisanal production of terracotta lamps received a great boost. But today, by virtue of their delicacy and fragility, only a few specimens have remained intact and have survived to the present day.<br \/>At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cortemanfredi.it\/en\/corte-manfredi-to-discover-salento\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Corte Manfredi<\/strong><\/a>, in Alessano, it is possible to observe a pair of ancient terracotta lamps, dating back to the early 1900s, enamelled, of Salento origin (6A).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ancient ligth of the lamp The oil lamp is often made of ceramic.
