This extraordinary sacred building is an icon of <strong>Lecce Baroque<\/strong>, characterized by refined artistic mastery and surprising architectural details.<br \/>\nIts construction began in 1353, designed by the architect <strong>Giuseppe Zimbalo<\/strong>, and lasted for over a century, undergoing various transformations over the centuries. The fa\u00e7ade, imposing and richly decorated, is a riot of details sculpted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cortemanfredi.it\/en\/pietra-leccese\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Lecce stone<\/strong><\/a>, a limestone material typical of the region, known for its softness which allows extremely detailed workmanship.<br \/>\nThe main portal opens in the center of the facade, surrounded by columns and decorated with sculptures of flowers, cherubs and religious symbols. The complexity and richness of the ornaments are impressive, creating a scenographic effect that attracts the gaze of visitors.<br \/>\nOne of the most evocative features of this church is its rose window, a masterpiece of Lecce stone inlay that filters the sunlight, creating a magical effect inside the building. The interior, in the shape of a Latin cross, houses numerous richly decorated side chapels, each dedicated to different saints and adorned with baroque altars, frescoes and sculptures.<br \/>\nThe highlight of the Church of Santa Croce is its high altar, a masterpiece by Zimbalo, characterized by rich decoration and a majestic statue of the crucified Christ.
